July 5 ♣ Still marooned. We were roused out of troubled sleep this morning by the twittering of birds. They are of a kind unknown to us; their bills are dark purple and are quite transparent in a certain light—creepy to see their tongues and teeth mangling the tiny gitte-bugs which is the chief fare of these creatures. Their back sides are bright orange, and two tiny black spots there placed look for all the world like eyes.
